Purpose and Need for Planning

PURPOSE

The authorized purposes of the proposed action in the PEIS for both watersheds are watershed protection, public recreation, and flood damage reduction.

NEED

The need for federal action arises from the failure of five dams in the two watersheds during an extreme storm event in August 2018.
